Holiday TEU Trends

  • Sum of Christmas products imported in this season falls behind prior years

  • Consumers are buying back-to-school shoes early, but fewer

  • Two new Section 301 tariffs set to be levied, which are expected to bring rates back to Liberation Day levels

Ports around the country are processing either historic or large volumes of containers this early peak season, but how much of this is holiday-related?

I decided to turn to ImportGenius to find out.

Data analyzing the early peak season shows the amount of holiday-related freight being brought in is less compared to last year. The trade intelligence platform company searched customs records using a non-broad search on items for Christmas, New Year’s, Easter, Halloween, and Valentine’s Day. This type of search made it more targeted in identifying the freight.
